Squirt B hockey
A goal from Dylan Steilen with eight seconds left in the game broke a 6-6 tie, giving the MAHA Squirt B team a 7-6 win over Luverne on Saturday, their first of the season.
The Cardinals jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period but a pair of goals from Steilen, one with an assist from Xander Oey, tied the game. Luverne would take the lead twice in the second period, but Steilen scored again with an assist from Eli McGuffin to tie the game 3-3, giving Steilen a hat trick on the short-handed goal, and Salem Frost scored unassisted to make it 4-4 before the Tigers took their first lead of the game with a goal by Kirby Meulebroeck, making it 5-4.
The Cardinals tied the game early in the third period before Henry Horvath took a Gabe Widboom pass to put Marshall back on top, but Luverne tied the game 6-6 with just over three minutes left on the clock.
The Tigers caught a break with less than two minutes left in the game when Luverne was called for a tripping penalty, and Widboom found Steilen on a breakaway, who scored with eight seconds left in the game, giving Marshall the 7-6 win.
The Tigers will be in action again this weekend when they travel to Worthington on Saturday and Boji Bay (Iowa) on Sunday.
