SMSU BASEBALL: SMSU’s Clark named NSIC Pitcher of the Week
BURNSVILLE – Southwest Minnesota State University junior right-handed pitcher Justin Clark was named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Pitcher of the Week today following a dominate performance in a road victory over the University of Minnesota Crookston on Saturday afternoon.
Clark, a native of Maple Grove, helped SMSU to a 9-0 victory over UMC tossing a two-hit, seven-inning shutout, with a career-high 14 strikeouts. He walked two batters and did not allow a UMC runner to reach third base in recording his first career shutout.
For the season, Clark has pitched in 10 games with eight starts and is 2-4 with a 4.75 ERA in 47 1/3 innings with 57 strikeouts.
Clark, a 2015 graduate of Osseo High School, has a career ERA of 4.65 in 137 1/3 innings with five victories and 134 strikeouts. He has appeared in 31 games with 26 starts and has four complete games, while ranking fifth in team history in strikeouts per nine innings (8.78) and 10th all-time in strikeouts.
Southwest Minnesota State (14-22 overall, 9-17 NSIC), which won three of four games from UMC last weekend, resumes play this Friday starting a four-game series versus Bemidji State at Alumni Field in Marshall. Friday’s twinbill starts at 1 p.m., while Saturday’s doubleheader starts at 12 p.m.
