SMSU WRESTLING: SMSU returns to its NSIC schedule with two conference duals
MARSHALL – Southwest Minnesota State will return to its conference schedule this week as they face back-to-back NSIC opponents this Thursday and Friday night. SMSU will travel to take on Augustana on Thursday night at 7 p.m., followed by its first home conference dual against Northern State on Friday at 7 p.m.
Last Time Out
– SMSU went 1-1 in the Minnesota State duals with a 32-12 loss to No. 2 Wisconsin-Parkside followed by a 24-14 win over Central Missouri.
– The Mustangs led early against UW-Parkside before Wisconsin-Parkside reeled off wins in six straight bouts to end the match.
– CMU led SMSU 8-3 following a tech fall for Central Missouri in the 141 weight class before Justin Haneke’s pin of Kaleb Warner started a string of 5 wins over the final seven weight classes.
– Justin Haneke went 2-0 on the day with two pins including a win by fall over the No. 3 ranked wrestler at 149, Frank Yattoni of UW-Parkside.
– Haneke now has a 14-6 record on the year with six straight victories.
– Andrew Petersen went 1-1 on the day in the MSU Duals and is now 12-7 on the year.
– Cortez Arredondo also went 1-1 in the MSU Duals and is now 11-6 on the year.

– Augustana was receiving votes in the latest Division II wrestling rankings released on Dec. 29, 2017.
– Aero Amo was the No. 3 ranked wrestler at 184 in the latest individual rankings.
– SMSU is just 5-27 all-time against the Vikings, having lost three straight and 16 of 17 against Augustana.
– The last win for the Mustangs was a 15-14 win in January of 2014.
– The Vikings, who were also idle last week, have started the year with a 6-2 overall record and a 31-15 win over Northern State in the only NSIC dual of the season to this point for Augustana.
– Augustana will face MSU Moorhead on Saturday in its second of two NSIC duals this week.
