WABASSO – Anjolic Salfer has enjoyed a successful senior season as a Wabasso Rabbit. The senior sprinter competes in three individual events and is a member of two relay teams. Her forte is the sprinting events, where she excels in the 100 meters and 200 meters. This season Salfer has six top three finishes in the 100, including one first place finish. In the 200 meters she has seven top three finishes and has never placed out of the top three, including three first place finishes.

All that success would have meant nothing for Salfer if she failed to qualify for state, something she’s been trying to do for four years now as a member of the track and field team. Salfer accomplished that goal last Thursday in Pipestone at the section meet when she set a personal best in the 200 with a time of 26.70 to qualify for state.

“I was so excited,” Salfer said. “This is the moment I’ve been working for. Every year I’ve been saying I wanted to go to state. It couldn’t have come at a better time. It’s a dream come true is the best way to describe the way it feels.”

Salfer will look to add to her swan song as a Rabbit today when she competes in the preliminaries in the 200 meters at Hamline University. The race is scheduled to start at approximately 6:10 p.m.

The senior sprinter said that getting past the preliminaries and onto Saturday’s final race would be a testament to all her hard work over the years.

“It means more than anything,” Salfer said. “There are so many people in the Wabasso community and school that have helped and supported me over the years. They’ve helped me get to where I am now. If I placed at state it would almost be for them. I wouldn’t have qualified for state if it wasn’t for them. It would mean a lot.”

Starting at $3.95/week.
