Please, Odin, may I have my day?
Lately, the calendar seems to be crowded with meetings, volunteering, programs, shopping and whatever else finds its way into the month. I realize much of that overflowing calendar happenings is my fault, so maybe I shouldn’t complain too much. However, its still needs to be addressed.
Along the way, I’ve read that the way to self satisfaction is self evaluation. There’s a lot of wisdom in those few words so let’s meander a bit.
First of all, I just opened a bottle of McManis Pinot Grigio. It’s not the first time I have tasted this wine, and it always offers gratification. The soft citrus tastes are very tasty, and it ends with a crisp finish. There will always be time on my calendar for this wine.
Is there a reason my calendar is so filled? Yes, it’s my doing. Before I get to why the monthly calendar fills so quickly, let’s address what I want.
May I have a moment of silence? A time to take in my surroundings so I can rejuvenate myself by relaxing and enjoying the moment? A time to reflect on what’s happened and how those past issues can guide me going forward? So…
Wait a minute, the before mentioned Pinot Grigio is calling me. Ah OK, onward!
Wouldn’t it be nice to have a do nothing day? A day when you can take a walk, sleep a bit longer, read your favorite book over a cup of coffee?
But, wait a moment -- the self evaluation portion of this analysis keeps bugging me with the same reasons for being so involved. I am constantly reminded that I want to help others through tough times, and to offer support in whatever way I can. I want to be a part of a community that reaches out to those in need. To offer whatever I’ve learned from past moments as a guide for others.
And to continue to learn from those around me. I/We need continued enrichment -- that’s huge! So, do I still want my day? Yes, that’s important. But I always want to give back, too.
Now on that note, later today I’ll have a snifter of Montelena Brandy. A wonderful California brandy with satisfying softness and gentle melon tastes.
You know, looking back, I do have my day. It’s every day…
May you find your day.
As always, eat and drink in moderation, but laugh with reckless abandon!
Cheers!
