I enjoy a baseball game. So…
… Take me out to the ballgame…take me out with the crowd…
We recently had the opportunity to attend a St. Paul Saints baseball game with two of our sons. It was my first time at the Saints' ballfield, and it was fantastic.
…buy me some peanuts and Cracker Jacks, I don’t care if I never get back…
But I would like to go back to before the game. We wanted to have something to eat before the game, and we ended up at the Lost Fox Restaurant. We ordered our food items. Ours was a shared plate of hummus and crackers which was very tasty. Of course, I ordered a glass of wine. It was a Martin Codax Albarino -- a Spanish white wine.
The wine’s crisp citrusy taste along with its briny finish paired nicely with the hummus plate. When finished, I thought we had time to share a beer. After all it was time…
…to root, root, root for the home team…
Our son guided us to a brewery right across the street from the fall field. We entered the Metro Nome Brewery, and placed our orders. I wanted an old friend and ordered a Kölsch. It didn’t disappoint me with its nice balance of hops and malts. We played a quick game of word trivia, and I thoroughly enjoyed my old friend. Then, it was time to go to the ballgame, and…
…if they don’t win, it’s a shame…
Entering the ball park reminded me of when our farm family would go to a Twins baseball game at the old Met Stadium. Both ball fields had a welcoming feeling to them. We found our seats, and they were perfect. We sat just beyond third base, and could hear the players talk to each other along with the ball being hit and caught.
Hearing those baseballs being caught reminded me of playing catch with our children. That annual bit of catching continues to this day.
The Saints scored early on an inside the park home run! What an exciting moment! Being true fans, we had to have a hot dog. Tradition is tradition, ya’ know.
As the game continued, the Saints maintained their lead, and the between innings family fun activities were so enjoyable. Naturally, there were those moments when…
…for its one, two, three strikes and you’re out…
We actively joined in the singing during the seventh inning stretch as everyone should. And the Saints won…
…at the old ballgame.
May you always find your Field of Dreams.
As always, eat and drink in moderation, but laugh with reckless abandon!
Cheers!
