Life is a series of tries

By Ron Skjong 3 min read

While visiting our local public library and having a conversation with a friend of mine -- whom I’ll name Bobolink -- it ended with him saying life is a series of tries.

There’s a lot of wisdom in that statement, so let’s ruminate on it for a bit.

Don’t we all try to be a decent person? We would all like to think that’s true, but we know there are those "stinkers" out there who, for whatever reason, fall off the decency truck. Of course, we can’t judge too harshly. Who knows what mental/spiritual or physical burden they are carrying. Therefore, let’s always try to pass on decency.

For many of us, our formal education ended awhile ago. We graduated from whatever school, took a breath of relief and plunged into the world around us. However, we must always try to expand our minds. How you accomplish that is your choice. At our local historically fantastic theater, there will soon be a community program entitled "Freedom, Democracy and your Rights…" It’s a free event and should be a perfect opportunity for us to listen, learn and to see each other. We might be challenged by the program or we might be supported by it. Either way, we should be willing to try a new slice of life.

One thing I’ve learned over the years is to never stop trying a new wine. After all, there are thousands of grape varieties grown around the world so think of the many possibilities. Wow, it blows one’s mind! How can you approach all these different wines? By trying one bottle at a time. If you haven’t tried Ménage à Trois Decadent Cabernet Sauvignon, why not give it a try? It’s full-bodied with lots of tasty black cherry and chocolate flavors. Or, if you prefer a white wine, try a glass of Yellow Tail Sauvignon

Blanc. Wonderfully crisp with nice citrus flavors.

Yes, life is a series of tries. We should always try to support our families, communities and our nation. We support families by talking and listening to them. We support our communities by trying to reach out to our neighbors. We support our nation by various types of personal services. Don’t forget to vote -- that’s a basic human right.

Think about your daily activities. How many new things do you try everyday? Sometimes we succeed, sometimes we fail. Just keep on trying. I’ve got my share of life’s battle scars. What was learned from those experiences was to get up off the floor and try again.

With that, I’ll try a glass of Silk & Spice Smooth Red Blend. I’ll be interesting to experience this noted wine from Portugal. I think Bobolink would be proud of me when I try this new wine.

May your life be filled with shining light tries!

As always, eat and drink in moderation, but laugh with reckless abandon!

Cheers!
