Those good old days
Ah, those good old days!
Weren’t they so much fun? Filled with laughter and festivities? All was wonderful back then, right?
Well maybe I better lay off from consuming so much coffee for awhile when I note how those good old days were nothing but good. Allow me to remove some of the sugar coating from those good old days and introduce some reality to the subject. I like to think of those good old days as a rose bush –beautiful flowers but with prickly stems.
First of all, what are we referencing when we talk about those good old days? Naturally, it all depends on our personal perspective of that time. For some of us, those gone days were just a few years ago. From a youngster’s point of view, those times could be last year. Maybe a better term for those days would be they were the age of innocence. We were surrounded (if we were fortunate) by a supportive parent network and they guided us through that time of young days.
Then, we grew up and life began to show some of its prickly realities. Not everything was so nice — those sharp stickers were waiting for us and we hoped to stay focused on the rose. Again, most of us had some sort of family/friend support to help us along the way. So, from that perspective, they were good old days, too.
From a personal perspective, thee were many good old days centered around good old wines. A bottle of Hogue Pinot Grigio recently came to my attention. For some reason, I hadn’t enjoyed that good old wine for quite some time. So, to correct my foible, the wine followed me home. What a great reunion! With a refreshingly peachy taste along with a delicious melon finish, it made for a good new day.
Back to those good old days…
Were they really good or are we simply yearning for them during our hectic adult life? From my point of view, thinking back to those good old days, the answer is that those times gave me a basis for being, gave me a look into my current self and a hope lifeline for the future.
Those good old days helped form us, and our current days continue to forge us, too. In case you haven’t noticed, we are constantly evolving creatures. Those on going changes give us the opportunity to better ourselves and to make another person’s good old day more positive, too.
We all grew and continue to grow during our days on this planet. Let us never forget how fortunate we are to have the support of other humans, and the support of Mother Nature. They all helped to build those good old days.
So, today as we walk through the good old days of tomorrow, be happy for your opportunity to do well. Just…stay away from the prickles and smell the roses!
May your good old days fill you with joy and strength for tomorrow.
As always, eat and drink in moderation, but laugh with reckless abandon!
Cheers!
