May I suggest

By Ron Skjong 3 min read

There are some suggestions you should accept, and there are some you should respectfully leave alone. Knowing the difference usually makes for a smoother sailing through life’s waters.

Having had my share of suggestions offered to me over the years, permit me to offer some suggestion based on my experiences.

May I suggest we always keep moving forward? Yes, life throws a curve ball at us when we are expecting a fast ball, but we learn, get up off the mental floor and keep on going. Just keep moving forward.

As we Northerners know, Old Man Winter occasionally dumps a load of snow on us, and we get a snow day. May I suggest we embrace those snow days as a time to slow down and accomplish that long put off chore? Maybe that chore is calling an old pal or doing some type of physical endeavor. Hey, it’s a chance to take a breath and see the little things around us.

Life offers many challenges and opportunities along the way. May I suggest you carve out your own path and fulfill your dream? However quiet or loud it is, listen to your inner voice. That personal internal voice is your way forward. I’ve known people who achieved all sorts of education and work experience, but were missing whatever filled their joy bucket. Which brings forth another suggestion.

May I suggest you surround yourself with people who care about you? Then listen to them and use their support to grab your dream. Those people I mentioned before totally switched from a profession they were not comfortable with to a position of helping others fulfill their dreams. These folks became counselors, teachers or social workers (to name a few), but they always thank their support network for helping them fulfill their destiny.

How about this suggestion? Find the wine you like and enjoy the heck out of it. I am sipping a glass of Line 39 Merlot -- a very pleasant California wine full of light cherry and chocolate flavors. Whoever gave me the suggestion to try this wine knew what they were doing.

I just read an interesting article about glaciers. We all know they form over many, many years, and that they move slowly. That slowly part of the article caught my attention -- move slowly but always forward. May I suggest we all do that? It’s not how fast we do something -- if you like a slow paced endeavor, do it that way. It’s not the speed that counts, but the satisfaction in the completion of your wish. Just keep moving forward and keep your cool!

May you always seek good advice and achieve your future at your pace.

As always, eat and drink in moderation, but laugh with reckless abandon!

Cheers!
