Excited to join the Independent team

2 min read

My name is Daniel Lins, and I'm excited to join the Marshall Independent as its newest sports editor.

A 2024 graduate of Arizona State University's Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, I've known for years that sports journalism was the career I wanted to pursue. Sports have always been a major part of my life, and I'm fortunate to have turned that passion into a profession.

Since graduating, I've covered local sports in both La Crosse, Wisconsin, and Winsted, Minnesota, focusing on the athletes, coaches and communities that make high school sports so meaningful.

Along the way, I've had the opportunity to report on a wide range of teams and events, from Arizona State University athletics and the Arizona Cardinals to the Minnesota Golden Gophers, as well as some of the nation's top Division III football programs and Minnesota state tournament competitions. Those experiences have given me the chance to cover everything from local rivalries to major college and professional sports while reinforcing my appreciation for the compelling stories that exist at every level of competition.

I'm excited to bring that experience to Marshall and the surrounding communities. I look forward to getting to know the local athletes, coaches, fans and readers while sharing the stories that make southwest Minnesota sports special.

Whether it's Friday night football, a state tournament run or the everyday moments that define a season, my goal is to provide coverage that informs, celebrates and connects the community.

When I'm not reporting, I enjoy playing video games, golfing and spending time outdoors. I'm also looking forward to exploring Marshall's parks, local restaurants, community events and everything else the area has to offer.

I'm grateful for the opportunity to join the Marshall Independent, and I look forward to becoming part of the community and telling the stories that matter most to its readers.

I look forward to hearing from our readers, players and coaches. You can reach me at dlins@marshallindependent.com
