Wait for it

Like most of us, I’ve been told many times to “wait for it.”

Sometimes that was standing at the end of our farm’s lane and waiting for the school bus to arrive. Some of those very cold winters made that wait very uncomfortable. What couldn’t the bus be on time? I’m the one suffering!

Well, I guess the lesson that waiting is a part of life was finally learned because … wait a minute … I still don’t like to wait. What has been learned is that there can be goodness found in waiting. For instance…

When sipping a wine, it’s a positive to wait. Wait for what? The taste of the wine to fully expose itself to you. There are wines like a very sweet Moscato that reveals its taste immediately. No waiting necessary. Then, there’s a luscious decadent tasting cabernet sauvignon that asks for patience so its full tastes can be revealed. With this wine, a bit of patience pays rich tasting dividends.

As you probably know, we could us some rain. There’s not too much we can do to make the rain gods squirt some moisture upon us so we wait. We listen to the weather forecast. We watch the clouds. Is it humid or dry? One day we will learn there is not a heck of a lot we can do with this issue so waiting is necessary.

Have you noticed how fast your birthdays arrive now? It seems the calendar has shrunken, and that day arrives faster and faster. I wonder why that is noticed now. Age should bring wisdom, right? Hey! I know what’s occurring. Wisdom condenses your life so the smarter you become, the faster time flies. Yeah, right!

I was chatting with a neighbor, and we got on the subject of how warm it was that day. I jokingly said that fall is only about four to five months away, and then, soon the snow will fly. My neighbor didn’t buy my smart aleck statement — not one bit of it. The neighbor’s reply was she could certainly wait for that change of temperatures.

In the same manner, our friendship will slowly develop and grow. I can wait for that!

There’s nothing wrong with waiting. It give us a chance to think and reflect on needed changes and begin again.

May you have many positive waiting experiences.

As always, eat and drink in moderation, but laugh with reckless abandon!

Cheers!
