Wine tasting friends
ICYMI, acronyms are a part of our everyday world.
Now do you know what acronyms are? Well, just in case you don’t know, an acronym is defined as a word formed by combining the initial letters of a multipart word. For instance, ICYMI stands for “in case you missed it.”
Over the years, I’ve run into many acronyms, as I’m sure you have, too. If you were in the military, you certainly knew what SNAFU meant. ASAP is used in many circumstances from medical and law enforcement activities telling you to get something done immediately. I like LOL — it tickles my funny bone.
Recently, an acronym on a gifted T-shirt has received a lot of notice and laughs. I’m going to provide the story of the T-shirts revealing, and you will have to figure out the acronym. The answer to why the T-shirt is so well received is TBA.
ICYDK, I enjoy hosting wine tasting events. The staff at our local history museum was kind enough to ask me to do a tasting event as a fundraiser for the museum. Being a bit of a history nerd and a wine freak, I accepted the kind invitation. And the journey to the before mentioned T-shirt began.
The decision was made to focus on wines grown and produced in Goodhue County. It was easy to choose Cannon River Winery wines for our party. A couple of the staff met me at a local liquor store where we choose six wines made by the winery. FYI, we left with a box full of wine and we were filled with great expectations.
The chosen wines included a red blend named Mill Street which is named after the history of the building and the street upon which the winery sits. I like that type of historical connection. We had a delicious rosé named The Blush. This wine received the most votes as the favorite wine of the attendees. We also had a red blend named GoGo. It’s named after the owner’s grandmother, and, again, I like that connection to family history. Another wine was named Sogn Blanc, and is named after the Sogn Valley where the grapes are grown just southwest of the winery. BTW, can you pronounce Sogn? Come on, let your Norwegian heritage show! Another wine chosen was named A Perfect Storm – a tasty red blend.
I saved the best for last. We served a zesty white wine called Feisty Bitch. To say we had some fun with that wine would be an understatement. More on this wine in a bit.
I wore a sweater over my special T-shirt, and the night began. After introducing the evening and what we were going to experience, the festivities began by introducing the royalty (Meaning the museum’s staff) to the assembly. The smiles began.
We tasted a couple of wines and discussed them a bit, and, then, it was time to really kick off the party by revealing my T-shirt. In large letters, the acronym WTF is displayed on the t-shirt! Let’s just say we all got more than one belly roll of laughter from the letters, and a whole lot of words relating to the acronym.
Innocently, I informed the rowdy crowd that the acronym stood for Wine Tasting Friends! Again, the group had just a few things to say back to me.
As the evening came to a close, we stood around the room and talked and laughed together. Many stories were exchanged, and it was so pleasant for me to see and hear what was happening at the moment.
Isn’t that what socializing is all about — especially if it’s for a good cause? BTW, if you haven’t visited the Goodhue County Historical Society’s museum in sometime, I urge you to do so. Our history is there to learn from and to bond over.
May you never forget your history, and, maybe, we’ll become BFF over a glass of wine.
As always, eat and drink in moderation, but laugh with reckless abandon!
Cheers!
