For this column, I often share social news or the gossip columns from the old newspapers. The social news is always fascinating to read and a lot can be learned of local people and events from the communities in Lyon County. For this article, I’m going to share the classifieds from one of the newspapers. The classifieds are interesting to read as well. Here are a few from the News-Messenger of Lyon County on Feb. 16, 1917:

OWING to the increased cost of milk and cream containers, we are obliged to charge 2 cents for the quart size instead of 1c as in the past. And at this price, we will money ahead if people will bring their own bottles or can for milk and cream. The Marshall Creamery.
FARMERS MEETING — The Lyon County Farmers Association’s Annual meeting will be held at the Court House in Marshall on Saturday, Feb. 24, 1917, one o’clock p.m. L.A. Wewetzer, Sec’y.

The photograph featured this week show an image of a certificate in the Lyon County Museum’s collection. The certificate for perfect attendance for nine months was awarded to Ward Weidauer in 1924. Ward attended Lyon County School District No. 94.
