On the Porch

For this column, I often share social news or the gossip columns from the old newspapers. The social news is always fascinating to read and a lot can be learned of local people and events from the communities in Lyon County. For this article, I’m going to share the classifieds from one of the newspapers. The classifieds are interesting to read as well. Here are a few from the News-Messenger of Lyon County on Dec. 20, 1918:

The photograph featured this week from the Lyon County Museum’s collection shows a ledger book. The ledger book was used for recording expenses for income tax returns and was issued to customers by the Lyon County National Bank in Marshall. This ledger book was used by Edwin Albert Drury Sr. for the years of 1920 and 1921.

The Lyon County Historical Society (LCHS) is a non-profit, member-supported organization. LCHS operates the Lyon County Museum at 301 W Lyon St in Marshall.
