Why do we…?

Why in the world do we do it? As we plod or race through our days, why do we make the choices we make?

I have visited a local coffee shop many times to accomplish my weekly writing. I try to sit in the same seat because … I enjoy the view. While wondering how to put thoughts together, I look out the window and get lost in the view of the nearby trees quivering in the wind, and beyond them, the beauty of a natural piece of land offering tiny yellow and white flowers that graciously grant me their beauty.

Why do I choose this particular table? Because it offers me inspiration.

Why do you choose a favorite relaxation site? Does that particular spot remind you of a childhood experience? Did you plan to visit this place or was it happenstance? Actually, who cares as long as it brings you some peace of mind. It’s personal.

A friend recently stopped me to talk about a bottle of Line 39 Cabernet Sauvignon she had just purchased. She loved the soft aroma and greatly enjoyed the wine’s soft and relaxing taste. Why did she buy it and why tell me about her experience? Because she had read about it in one of my columns. This is stated not for personal egotistical reasons, but, because she wanted me to know how much joy the wine gave her. Her kindness made us both feel happier.

Why do you enjoy one sport more than others? Was your choice made after trying many sports, and your ability matched one activity? Or, are you simply a fan of the sport because you have a favorite team playing the game?

Our children experienced a number of sports as they matured. I enjoyed all of them. From running, basketball, football, baseball to gymnastics, it was, as a parent, pleasing to watch them develop a sense of teamwork and sportsmanship. Thank you, kids!

And now, our grandkids are starting to turn that wheel of sports again. Why am I so lucky?

Why do I like Gnarly Head Old Vine Zin? This California Zinfandel brings me hefty tastes of dark berries along with the wonderful addition of spicy pepper and vanilla. Why do I like it? Why not?

You know, a good friend is invaluable. Why did you choose whomever as your friend? Was it because of similar educational experiences, similar likes and dislikes or because you just bonded? Whatever the reason, never let that friend disappear. They are part of your body’s fabric, and hopefully will always be there for you.

It’s like my siblings. We don’t agree on everything and have some widely differing views on some subjects. However, they are my family and I’ll always be there for them. Does that make me a saint? Heck, no! But we are family — enough said.

By the way, we certainly all agree on enjoying a glass wine together. Again, why not?

May you enjoy your whys of life.

As always, eat and drink in moderation but laugh with reckless abandon!

Cheers!
