Preparing for 2024-25 school year
As we gear up for the fall and the 2024-25 school year, several summer projects are underway, taking advantage of the time when school is not in session. One major project you’ll notice completed this fall is the renovation of the Middle School theater.
Funded by Long-Term Facilities Maintenance funds, this project has been in the planning stages for several years. The theater, originally built in 1968, was showing signs of wear. The newly renovated space will feature new seating, wall coverings, flooring, updated lighting, speakers, and new presentation hardware, ensuring it meets the needs of both the school and the community for years to come.
Another significant project nearing completion is the relocation of our alternative school to its new permanent home on the SMSU campus. In partnership with SWWC, we will move to the former SS building in the coming weeks. The alternative school, now named “Marshall ALC,” will occupy the second floor and serve secondary students from the area who are behind in credits needed to graduate. This new location, right across the street from our high school, will better meet the needs of our students and staff and be more cost-effective.
In addition to these projects, hiring staff to fill open positions is a major summer task. While most positions are filled, we are still looking for a few teachers and several paraprofessionals. Paraprofessionals work with students with special needs, helping them navigate the school day. Their duties can vary widely, from riding the bus with students to assisting in classes, mealtimes, and recess. If you’re interested in learning more about these positions, please check our website or contact us directly.
We are fortunate to have a supportive school board, with members serving four-year terms. This fall, three board members’ terms are ending, and the seats will be open for election. Those interested in learning more about being a board member are invited to an informational session on July 30 from 4:30-6:30 PM in the Professional Development room at the District Office. Candidacy filings will be accepted from July 30 to August 13 during school hours also in the District Office.
Teachers will return for workshops at the end of August, and school will begin after Labor Day. In the meantime, online registration is open for all sites. You can get a head start by confirming your information in the Parent Portal. The annual application for educational benefits is also available on the portal, with copies arriving in mailboxes soon. Look for more information from your child’s school about the start of the year in the coming weeks.
Thank you for your continued support and involvement in our school community. We look forward to an exciting and productive year ahead!
