On the Porch
We are in the process of putting new displays together at the Lyon County Museum. We have two display cases located near the ice cream shop on the main floor with items from 1924 and 1974. We pulled out a few items from the museum’s collection that are 100 years old and 50 years old this year. Below is a listing of the items located in the display cases.
1924 artifacts:
Trophy: Southern Minnesota Interscholastic Music Contest, Marshall, Minnesota. 1924: Winner of Girls Glee Club. Photograph: Lyon County Band September 1924, St. Paul, Minn. is printed in white on the bottom center of the photograph. H. Larson Studio, Mpls. is printed in white in the lower left corner. The Lyon County Band finished second in the state Legion band contest. Ralph Moon, 9th from left front row is written on the back. Postcards: 5 real photo postcards showing damage from a tornado that struck the southern part of Lyon County on June 22, 1924. Photograph: St. Joseph’s Academy of Marshall 1924 Freshman and Sophomore Class. Certificate: This certificate attests that Ward Weidauer had perfect attendance at School District #94, Lyon County for 9 months in 1924. Magazine: House Beautiful magazine for August 1924.
1974 artifacts:

The photograph featured this week from the Lyon County Museum’s collection is one of the artifacts in the 1924 display case. This certificate was given to Ward Weidauer who had perfect attendance at Lyon County School District #94 for 9 months in 1924.
If you haven’t visited the museum in a while, we are open Monday-Friday: 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and Saturdays noon-4 p.m. The Lyon County Historical Society (LCHS) is a non-profit, member-supported organization.
