What is your why?

Have you ever thought about what your “why” is?

Whether it’s in your career path, an organization you work or volunteer for or your personal life.

What is your why?

Why do you do the things you do in a day?

Why do you volunteer?

Why do you work where you work?

It’s easy to forget our why. We dive into each day and sometimes find ourselves going through the motions and forgetting why we are there in the first place. It’s human nature to lose sight of things sometimes. We need people in our corner to remind us of our why. Maybe it’s your spouse, a family member, your board of directors or a dear friend.

United Way of Southwest Minnesota has a why. Our why is that we want to do everything we can to make southwest Minnesota a better place to live for every person in every community, every single day of the year.

We are reminded of our why in the happiness of children receiving Imagination Library books, in the thank you card we receive from the Food Shelf and when opening the mail to find numerous donations from our supporters that understand the importance of our mission.

Take a few minutes to write down your why and keep it somewhere that you will see it often.

I encourage you to take some more time in 2022 to stay rooted in your why.

— Sarah Kicmal is the CEO of United Way of Southwest Minnesota
