FOREVERWELL — get active, stay fit, be social

The YMCA has long provided programming for seniors to help them remain healthy, active, and involved in their community. Pickleball, land and water-based fitness classes, social groups, educational opportunities, and volunteer options provide something for everyone.

As we enter the 23rd month of the pandemic the surveys show that we are depressed, anxious, lonely, and stressed at a level that is causing a secondary mental health crisis. It has been a near perfect storm in that the strategies that are critical to ensuring our collective public health during the pandemic are the same as those affecting our mental health. As a non-profit charitable organization, the Y is well-equipped to combat factors like social isolation and lack of physical activity which are impacting so many.

We are also excited to announce the launch of the FOREVERWELL Program which will enhance our ability to serve our older adult population.

FOREVERWELL supports whole person well-being for those 55 years and older. It has activities for spirit, mind, and body. It will have both indoor and outdoor activities which will promote healthy lifestyles and help alleviate boredom and isolation.

It will enhance social well-being and volunteerism. Include in FOREVERWELL 25+ weekly fitness classes, Pickleball three mornings a week, a walking program, a Splash… Spin… Dash Indoor Triathlon, an Aging with Vibrancy Support Group, and much more.

In February we will hold our own Olympics with a host of different events.

You can find the FOREVERWELL newsletter and slate of activities on the Y’s new website. Heather Radke and Katie Serbus facilitate the program and can be contacted at 532-9622.

Everyone is welcome at the Y. Those with Medicare Advantage Plans through a variety of insurers received a free Y membership.

Local donors to the Y Partners Campaign allow the Y to provide low-cost membership options through need-based scholarships.
