To the editor: It is amusing to see that growing up in different sections gives you a different view of history. As a native of the Pacific Northwest, we were taught the reason for the Civil War was the South planned to secede — leave the Union and start their own country. Their economy was good and they were seething over the taxes and tariffs that the northern states were forcing on them. They had enough. To the editor: The US Constitution, Article I, section 1, paragraph 1 “All legislative or lawmaking powers granted by this Constitution shall be vested exclusively in the Congress of the United States”. Judges or a group of judges have no authority to make law. Neither do bureaucrats in Federal or State departments of whatever. A special blessing

To the editor: Salvation Army bell ringing is such a rewarding way to volunteer. Volunteers are needed through Saturday. Children accompanied by an adult are so welcome too. I had an experience recently that really touched my heart. A gentleman had a beautiful bouquet of red roses in a vase in his cart. I mentioned that these surely would make someone very happy. He said 21 years ago he received a heart from a 30-year-old young woman. These flowers were going to her parents who live in St. Paul. I asked how he would get them there. It’s a cyclic thing

To the editor: The author of ‘Feedback loops’ (Dec. 15) attempts to show us that feedback loops linked to CO2 gas produced by burning fossil fuels is causing global warming. I have yet to see sound ‘empirical’ evidence showing how man’s microscopic CO2 contribution to nature’s massive atmospheric and oceanic CO2 reserves is able to man-handle the global weather system. Feedback loops

To the editor: Some people may be aware of the various feedback loops that are affecting our climate. But it appears as though not enough people are aware of what’s happening or have some kind of misunderstanding of what’s happening. I will attempt to clear things up by explaining some of the feedback loops. The warming we observe as being directly linked to the gases produced by the excessive burning of fossil fuels allows the air to hold more water vapor.
