Seifert a young man with experience

2 min read

It is always interesting to read candidate information before an election. A public forum article contrasting the two Senate candidates for District 15 appeared in the Independent, Tuesday, Oct. 13.

The writer wrote in support of a "well qualified woman on the ballot." This candidate, Andrea Boettger of New Ulm has 47 years of experience on various councils and boards and presently serves as the "Chair of the Region Nine development Commission."

Running for the same senate position is Braxton Seifert of Marshall, "just getting started as a 21-year-old." The letter writer praised his "brief resume" but asked if we wanted "a 21-year-old opportunist or a seasoned professional representing us?

Braxton may be young, but he grew up on politics, having his father Marty, at one point, running for Minnesota governor. Braxton also was president of the Young Republicans in college, at SMSU and served on the Lyon County Republican Board while a student. Judging from the many signs displaying his name, lining Hwy 68 from New Ulm to Mankato he has made a favorable impression on many farmers. Besides attending Farm Fest, he traveled a total of 10,000 miles in his truck to visit every city in District 15.

Timothy was a young minister at Ephesus, in Asia. The Apostle Paul referred to him as "my son" in the two letters of instruction and encouragement he wrote to Timothy which are recorded in the Bible. These words seem to apply to Braxton, too:

"Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example . . . " (I Timothy 4:11)
