November election an opportunity to change course

2 min read

Well, gas prices have doubled since the war started. To justify what has happened with the sharp increase, we hear about how high gas prices were in 2022, from the same people that were complaining about it then. Only now we are hearing from these people that it isn't that bad.

First let's see what caused the gas price increase in 2022. Russia invaded Ukraine and their oil was sanctioned to stop the invasion. Then the pandemic was coming to an end and a massive increase in driving and jet fuel consumption started, combined with closures of refineries and reduced operations by the oil companies, due to the limited use of gas and oil during the pandemic.

Now looking at 2026. A war of choice was started against Iran and foreseeably the Strait of Hormuz was shut down, cutting off oil and fertilizer, which in turn caused global prices to increase dramatically, all necessitated by the canceling of the nuclear agreement with Iran in 2018.

Of course, the increase in tariffs by the United States on everyone except Russia, not only raised inflation but angered our allies which left us with no help. Now our trading partners like Canada and many others are making trade agreements with China instead of putting up with the horrific name calling and treatment by the United States.

If that wasn't enough incompetent decision making, a new bill was passed that totally cut off funding for health care premiums, which increased premiums 215% and even more than that. Massive cuts to food stamps, cancer research, Medicare, Medicaid, education, all while raising the national debt by 5 trillion dollars in the last 18 months.

On top of that a 4 and a half trillion-dollar tax cut for the top 1%. Nov. 3 will be all our chance to do something about what should not have happened in the first place. Otherwise, you can expect to see more of the same from the last 18 months.
