Do we elect politicians to represent us? Or do we elect politicians to create programs that take our property and give it to those to whom it does not belong?
Nearly half to two thirds of the Minnesota budget provides benefits to citizens and non-citizens that are "dependent" on a government program. Unauthorized legislation by the people we elect requires the taxpayers to provide these benefits. There is no clause in the U.S. Constitution that grants authority to Congress to provide benevolence; therefore, the states do not have that authority.
The congress of the United States and State Congress does not have the Constitutional authority to legalize theft in the name of compassion. If we as an individual would do what the Congress is doing, (taking property from one citizen and giving it to another to whom it does not belong) we would go to jail. However, when Congress does the same thing, they get praised for their compassion. Both acts are immoral; however, congress made their act legal.
Voting for someone who's focus and purpose is to provide benefits to some at the expense of another, is not a good reason to vote for them. The sole purpose of those we elect is to adhere to their Constitutional oath and protect our individual rights to life, liberty and property. That is their absolute duty.
We, as citizens, have the responsibility to hold those that represent us accountable to their duty. So, rather than sit around complaining about high prices, taxes, burdensome rules and regulations.... get active, get informed and be one of the individuals that will make Minnesota great again.
