Incredible blessing to be an American
To the Editor:
For 77 years I have felt blessed and grateful for being born in America. I have had a wonderful life. As America now embarks on it’s next 250 years, I would ask just two questions of my friends, family and fellow Americans. What country has done more good for the world than America? What country would you prefer to live in other than America?
As we celebrate 250 years of freedom, opportunity and American success, we understand that America’s history has been imperfect. However, our nation’s willingness to change and sacrifice for what is right has been constant. It is remarkable how many times America has stepped up and saved the world from various forms of tyranny, including communism.
The current support for communism is dangerous and displays incredible historical ignorance. Filling yourself with hate and anger over election results and/or perceived historical injustice will destroy a person. Those that seek to revise American history and denigrate our institutions will always fail.
Freedom and capitalism built America and are the cornerstone of 250 years of American exceptionalism. After celebrating America’s 250th birthday this past weekend, I couldn’t be more optimistic about America’s next 250 years. I feel this way because I was born to parents that modeled what it means to be an American. Like your parents, I was taught to work hard, love America, and understand the incredible blessing that it is to be an American.
