Questions on DHS
To the editor:
Thoughts to ponder regarding recent actions by Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
Are you OK with apprehending people without a warrant and asking for proof of citizenship?
Are you OK with entering a home without a warrant and taking people into custody?
Are you OK with detaining American citizens for days without charges and then releasing them in a different location with no money or means of contacting anyone? With the only comment upon release being you are good to go.
I have learned of all of these circumstances from a source I trust the Minnesota Star Tribune.
On a personal level I was recently standing on the street corner adjacent to my daughter’s house with my son in law. An agent with DHS approached and asked if we had a problem with him. My son in law stated that his reckless driving in a residential neighborhood seemed dangerous. He aggressively barked I’m Ice I can do what I want so you can #### off. There was nothing happening regarding an arrest at the time. Later that morning a home was raided across the street and a man was hauled away. He was released later that day when it was determined that they were looking for someone else who had previously lived in that home, but was currently incarcerated and had been for two years. Are you OK with this?
Yes, I do realize such actions may make it easier to arrest a few bad actors. Are you OK with the collateral damage? Would you be if it were your neighbors?
Just a few questions to think about before attending the precinct caucuses on Feb. 3.
