Women dressing immodestly

To the editor:

0On Father’s Day, I read an interesting 6-13-25 Patrick O’Hearn article in Crisis Magazine concerning the dereliction of duty of fathers toward their daughters.

He stated: “Today, many men blame women for the temptations they face. But modesty starts not with dress but with fatherhood. A girl who is seen, cherished, and affirmed by her father won’t seek attention through her body. When she captures her father’s gaze, and knows the love of her Heavenly Father, she learns to dress for glory not for gratification” and, “Sadly, many Catholic fathers want to be liked by their children and so they remain silent when their daughter wears leggings in public and skimpy skirts at Mass.”

It was in the sexual revolution of the 1960s that English fashion designer Mary Quant took credit for inventing the miniskirt and hot pants, she stated: “I love vulgarity. Good taste is death, vulgarity is life”. Sounds to me like the typical satanic inversion of reality: ‘Good is evil, and evil is good’.

British author, Louise Perry, (who is agnostic), in her book, ‘The Case Against the Sexual Revolution’ explains that parents have a duty to not let their teenage daughters dress immodestly. This, coming from a former liberal feminist who changed her mind after working at a rape crisis center.

And what about preachers? Unfortunately, most seem to be just as silent on this issue as today’s fathers. This is understandable; women don’t like hearing that they are dressing immodestly. ‘Hell hath no fury like the fury of a woman spurned’.
