Invest in our future
To the editor:
As data centers for artificial intelligence are being built across the country, many are located where there’s already a strong source of electricity. Here in rural Minnesota, we have an abundance of wind generators producing clean, renewable energy. Yet, much of this power is sent hundreds of miles away to the Twin Cities, with a significant portion lost during transmission.
Instead of exporting our electricity, why not use it to create opportunities right here at home? Data centers and other high-tech facilities need reliable, affordable power–something we can provide locally. By attracting these businesses to rural Minnesota, we could create high-paying jobs, boost our local economy, and keep more young people in our communities.
It’s time to rethink how we use our resources. Rather than sending our wind power to the cities, let’s invest in our own future. Let’s encourage state leaders and business developers to bring new industries to rural areas, taking advantage of the energy we already produce. This would not only reduce transmission losses but also ensure that the benefits of clean energy stay in the communities that generate it.
Let the cities find alternative sources for their power needs. Rural Minnesota deserves to reap the rewards of our wind energy investments. By keeping the jobs and economic growth local, we can build a stronger, more sustainable future for our region.
