Another $20 million for RTR School District plus 9.94% levy increase
To the editor:
RTR provided the district tax payers with a breakdown of what the $20 million will cover.
The first thing that needs to be noted is the project will not be $20 million, but $20,675,032.
Where is the additional $675,032 going to come from?
General fund reserves?
Less than 5 years ago they took $575,000 from reserves for the sports complex. That is over $1 million is less than 5 years if new project goes through. If they keep spending the way they do, will they end up asking the tax payers for an operating referendum, thus increasing our taxes even more.
Is another gym for $4 million and a $1.7 million fitness center including new equipment a want or need. Take a look at all the other wants and you decide.
Per the Tyler Tribute a few weeks ago the RTR School District set the levy limitation at 9.94% increase due to increase in general fund due to increase in student enrollment. Didn’t the district send out information stating extra revenue from open enrolled students of $780,000. They failed to mention the expense that goes along with additional open enrolled students thus increasing the levy that the taxpayers have to pay.
They also mentioned the levy increase is due to decrease in debt. Decrease in debt should be a decrease in taxes for the taxpayer.
How will the increase in taxes effect you? After doing research my Voter Approved Levy will double if the bond passes plus with an almost 10% levy increase the other levy portion will increase.
