Simple way to determine choices

To the editor:

Columnist Steve Browne raised many questions in his opinion article, “Tennessee outlaws drag shows.” (March 21) He stated, “My oh my what an issue to divide the country over.”, making the point “a drag queen story hour at your local library was not something to make a fuss over compared to a possible European nuclear war or inflation.”

Browne suggested the real issue “appears to be about whether we should have such a category as ‘adult entertainment.’ ” He did not agree with those who claim drag queen entertainment is a totally innocent form of entertainment for children” as he has seen “video of children being exposed to some pretty raunchy stuff at these events.”

But Browne wondered: ” Whose business is it to determine what is ‘age appropriate’? Should we even have movie ratings? Is there any point to restrict adult content when there are no restrictions on the Internet? And can we discuss the issue of adult content like, well adults?” “Probably not.”, Browned concluded. “It’s a hot button issue and we’re having too much fun pushing each other’s buttons.”

God has given us a simple way to determine choices, useful for children as well as adults. “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” (I Corinthians 10:31)
