The story of our lives: Meeting generous people of southwest Minnesota

2 min read

To the editor:

This is a thank you letter to my friends and neighbors in Lyon County. It's now a tough winter, with snow and wind and sometimes ice. Many families who live close or farther away have helped me in many ways. They keep in touch with me about our friendship, my various needs, times we can be together in person, on the phone, or with a text or email. (Today I got a phone call from a friend in Yellow Medicine County. I don't want to leave other friends in Minnesota out of my thank you.)

They all offer to help me in whatever way–just let them know. You see, my husband Howard passed on September 4, 2022. During his two weeks at Fieldcrest Assisted Living in Cottonwood, everyone took good care of him. Friends came to be with him and with me. Our daughter Susan was with us.

We moved to our rural home south of Cottonwood in the summer of 1970. My journals report that very soon we met generous people, and that's the story of our lives for the last fifty-two years. Howard wrote books about our good lives in rural southwestern Minnesota. I better stay within a reasonable word length in this letter. Maybe I'll get started writing a book about a good life in rural southwestern Minnesota.
