To the editor:
For those among us that complain about all of the goings on in our State Capitals and Washington DC, have you ever thought to ask yourself the question: "How did these people get into these positions of power"?
Did they just magically appear? Of course not.
They got there by getting elected, then re-elected and re-elected etc. We vote for people that tell us what we want to hear rather than hold them accountable for what they do once they get there. Most people don't pay attention and just go about their lives. Too many people don't even bother to vote. The privilege to vote as an individual citizen is, perhaps, the most powerful tool we have to maintain our God given rights, freedoms and property. Yet, it is either not exercised or carelessly used.
The Constitution of the United States was conceived and written to create a nation by unifying the States, maintaining a civil society and protect our God given individual rights. The people we elect were to assume the responsibility to uphold the oath to "protect and defend" the principles spelled out in the Constitution. How is that going? Do you consider yourself free? Do you control your property, all the money you earn? Do you feel "safe"? If your answer is no and you need someone to place the blame on, look in a mirror.
We the people have done this to ourselves by being irresponsible, uninvolved and apathetic in the proper functions of governing by the people we elect to represent us.
The time has come, the time is now to read, learn and live the principles upon which our Constitution was based and require the people that represent us in government do the same.
