The City of Marshall's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Commission's mission is to create and sustain an ongoing dialogue through which we explore inequities, share information, and be a change agent for race equity within our community.
The DEI Commission has recently been notified of the unacceptable acts that took place at Southwest Minnesota State University (SMSU), targeting a faculty member and the LGBTQ+ and Jewish communities. These recent acts of vandalism and hate speech have not only defaced property, but have also intentionally sought to instill hurt and fear, leaving behind a feeling of uncertainty.
The City is dedicated to building a welcoming, inclusive, and racially equitable community and does not tolerate any type of hostility, vandalism, or antagonism towards any of our community members, on or off campus.
SMSU's Public Safety is asking for any information regarding these hateful acts. If you have any information that could assist in this investigation, please contact the University or its Public Safety Office.
Southwest Minnesota State University is part of the Marshall community and we stand united to create and foster a community that is welcoming and safe for all.
