To the editor:
Rural Americans have been hit hard by our rising energy costs; we rely on cars to get from place to place and in southwestern Minnesota those places can be pretty far apart. While many people are feeling the pinch over filling up the family car, our farmers are struggling with huge bills for fertilizer and fuel for tractors and other equipment. Our elected officials need to take action on these high fuel prices to relieve the strain on everyone, but especially our farm and rural families.
Every venture requires energy, and to help Minnesotans be successful in their livelihoods we need to prioritize actions that will address the energy crisis. America has the resources to increase production, and Congress should do everything it can to encourage investment in the development of American energy.
Given our abundant natural gas and oil resources, America is well positioned to stop this energy crisis. We just need elected officials to act. I hope Congress will support more energy investment, which will in turn support all of us in Greater Minnesota who chose to live, work and play here.
