Support your local Marshall Area YMCA

To the editor:

Since it’s opening on July 15, 2003, the Marshall Area YMCA has been a major factor in meeting the physical, social and mental health needs for those living in SW Minnesota. The Y’s mission of “creating programs and services that build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all” has improved and positively affected the lives of thousands of members.

In addition to a full array of exercise opportunities, the YMCA offers a welcoming environment to meet and connect with others. My personal “Y” story is that“I joined for the exercise, but stayed for the connections made with staff, instructors and other members.”

The “Y” , like most of the world, has been negatively affected by COVID. Mandated closures, mask requirements and health concerns led to a significant reduction in membership and needed operating revenue. Thankfully, COVID relief funds became critical in providing the financial support that allowed the “Y” to continue operations. With that source of revenue ending, the future of the “Y” depends on your membership.

If you have maintained your membership, thank you.

If you have dropped your membership, please renew.

If you are a senior citizen, you may qualify for a free membership thru your health insurance plan.

If you aren’t aware of what the “Y” offers, we have tours and gift passes available. Staff will be glad to assist you.

Hope to see you at the “Y”!
