To the editor:

Thank you Coach Sauter — you will be missed by this member of the first ever football team at Southwest.

I have followed Mustang football from a distance for his entire tenure. Even though I have had few interactions with him over the years, each time I did he was very impressive as a coach and especially as a principled man.

Winning football games at Southwest has always been difficult — it takes a very persistent and strong person to deal with the disadvantages of recruiting football players to SMSU.

He was successful even though the losses surpassed the wins. I am certain his current and former players appreciated playing for someone who was a superb role model and a great leader. Coach Sauter — a winner.
