LGBTQ+ youth deserve safety in our community

To the Editor:

I’m truly disgusted by members of this community who continue to spend their time in crusades against LGTBQ+ youth. Fully grown adults who have dedicated an absolutely obscene about of their time in an effort to abandon children who are just trying to live their lives.

It is quite obvious that none of them have ever attended a funeral of a child who deserved more time on Earth, only to be failed so abhorrently by the adults in their community that it became untenable. It’s quite obvious they’ve never counseled a bleeding and bruised child who deserved a safe place in school, and found the adults more willing to create a lawsuit over flags than care about them.

This isn’t an argument about constitutionality and flags; this is an argument against fully grown people of this town who have made it their crusade to make sure not every student in Marshall feels supported.

However thinly veiled their arguments are, the kids see through it — you don’t like them, you don’t like who they are, and you will go to extreme lengths to make sure they feel it. Their efforts to undermine the schools’ desire to support them just proves why it’s necessary that we go out of our way to make sure they know they are cared for, loved, and cherished — because there are grown folk in this town who have nothing better to do than make flimsy constitutional arguments and lawsuits over mere flags trying to support them.

I hope those kids know that there are people who see them, who like them just as they are, and want them have every opportunity to thrive. I hope they know there are adults out there who will fight for them.
