Real lessons from Texas in deep freeze

To the editor:

In reply to Lessons learned, Feb. 17.

Dan Markel, the Texas’s fossil fuel industry, and its supporters didn’t miss a beat this week. They dived right in and took advantage of the disaster the people of Texas are enduring to spread climate and renewable energy misinformation.

They just never miss an opportunity to disinform the public.

Due to Texas deregulations, the power grid was no longer required to maintain an energy reserve buffer of 15% above typical usage. Frozen instruments at natural gas, coal, and nuclear facilities have caused the shutdowns. Mother nature’s freezer is not what the likes of Greg Abbott, and Rick Perry, cared to prepare Texas for.

Hopefully, the lessons learned from this deep freeze will make Texas leaders rethink their cutbacks.
