Democrats are not pro-life

To the editor:

In the great debate in our country about abortion, everybody knows the generally understood meaning of “pro-life.” It means we give unborn babies protection for their lives. We give them every chance to live and enjoy the right to life. We don’t snuff out their lives before they have a chance to enjoy it.

A letter writer Oct. 6 tried to claim that “Democrats support … pro life positions.” For most Democrat office-holders, though, this is patently false.

Joe Biden, for example, has said he wants to make Roe v. Wade “the law of the land.” That would further enshrined in federal statue that unborn babies can be killed in abortions until late in pregnancy, even when a baby can feel pain or would be viable outside the womb. How is that pro-life?

U.S. Sen. Tina Smith, another Democrat, has voted against bills that would protect unborn babies who are developed enough to feel pain, and even to protect babies who survive an abortion and are struggling to live outside the womb. How is that pro-life?

Even our Democratic Congressman, Colin Peterson, who likes to say he’s “pro-life,” has been voting more and more against life recently, as he sidles up to the far-left leaders like Nancy Pelosi in the Democratic caucus.

In the last two sessions of Congress, Peterson has voted to allow your tax dollars to go to overseas organizations that do abortions — to the United Nations Population Agency, which supports China’s policy to force women to undergo abortions. That’s certainly not pro-life.

The author of the letter was correct about one thing: The Democratic party platform certainly does call for abortion on demand and forcing you and I as taxpayers to pay for abortions.

Sorry you can’t put lipstick on a pig. The Democratic party and its leadership are definitely not pro-life. If you want to support an innocent baby’s life, you need to look elsewhere to cast your vote
