Important choice for voters in November

To the editor:

Minnesota’s Seventh District voters have an important choice to make this year when they vote for their representative in the U.S. Congress.

For voters who would like to see Democrat Collin Peterson run again, he is doing so. Winning another election will let him keep the seat that he has had for 30 years. He was first elected in 1990.

For those that would like to see another leader in the district, Republicans need to select their candidate in the August Primary. The officially endorsed Republican candidate is Michelle Fischbach. Given her history of winning a difficult Minnesota Senate seat and then being elected by her peers to be Minnesota’s first female Senate President, she has the experience to take on Peterson.

Additionally, it is Fischbach that has been endorsed by Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life and the National Right to Life Committee. Peterson, who formerly enjoyed those key endorsements, lost them this year due to his recent voting record.

This is setting the stage for a showdown. If voters choose Fischbach in the Aug. 11 Primary, Peterson finally has some competition as it is likely to be an extremely close race in November. For those citizens that feel strongly about who will represent them at the U.S. Capitol, it will be crucial that they vote on both Aug. 11 and Nov. 3.
