Support those affected by mental illness

To the editor:

On Saturday, April 13, Marshall will be hosting an Out of the Darkness Walk to create awareness and understanding of mental illness and suicide. I (along with nearly 40 members of my extended family) participated in this walk last year in memory of my cousin who died by suicide in September 2017 after a long, painful battle with depression.

We found the Out of the Darkness Walk to be emotional and cathartic. For a family getting used to the “new normal” without our loved one, it was so helpful to see that we weren’t alone. Losing a loved one to suicide creates a hole that never completely heals, but events like the Out of the Darkness Walk help so much.

We all can support those that face the struggles of mental illness and dealing with the loss of a loved one to suicide by getting involved with the Out of the Darkness Walk next weekend! It’s not too late to put a team together or donate to this event. Please visit: http://afsp.org/marshallhs to find out more about how you can get involved. Together, we can make a difference!
