Get crazy about downtown Marshall

It’s getting crazy in downtown Marshall in a good way.

The city of Marshall emailed a press release Wednesday announcing the celebration for the newly reconstructed City Hall which became operational on Tuesday. That celebration is scheduled for Thursday, July 15 — a day designated as Crazy Days by the Marshall Area Chamber of Commerce. Of course, Crazy Days is an annual celebration to encourage Marshall retail businesses to offer “crazy” deals. Main Street in the downtown area will be closed off to let stores put merchandise outside and let customers browse and support local merchants.

Holding the City Hall event during Crazy Days was a great idea. Shoppers will be able to stroll over to City Hall and take tours inside City Hall after the ribbon cutting.

The news of the City Hall celebration follows Ralco’s big announcement of the purchase agreement with the Schwan’s Company for the Landmark Mercantile and New Atlantic Hotel buildings at Main Street and College Drive.

“We are excited about this opportunity to turn this beautiful and historic property into a business center to serve our community,” said Jon Knochenmus, president emeritus of Ralco.

We echo that excitement. The opening of the reconstructed City Hall and the development of the Landmark Mercantile and New Atlantic Hotel buildings have the potential to boost downtown activity to new levels.
