Short Takes

Headline sums it all up

THUMBS UP:

“It’s a time for giving.” That was the headline on Saturday’s article on donations made by the Buffalo Ridge Gobblers and Christensen Farms to the Kitchen Table Food Shelf in Marshall. The Food Shelf provides food to those in need year round. But of course, food aid during the holidays is very appreciated by to those in need. Meanwhile, the annual Community Christmas Day Dinner was held Tuesday at Holy Redeemer Church. Hundreds of people took advantage of the free Christmas dinner. People of southwest Minnesota as always respond to that time for giving.

Take time to study RTR building plan

THUMBS SIDEWAYS:

Emotions are running a little high within the Russell-Tyler-Ruthton School District. With a building bond referendum just two months away, a lot of people are questioning the need for a new building or the location. The most important point to remember is a fair election will be held. If you, as a voter don’t like the details or the idea of building a new school, vote no. If you believe this building plan is in the best interest of the district, vote yes. And most importantly, study the plan. If you need information on the building plan, contact the district. There also has been some articles published by the Independent. All of them can be found on marshallindependent.com

Proving a point leads to pain

THUMBS DOWN:

The government shutdown is an easy out for politicians trying to prove a point. It’s nothing but pain for those who work for the government and Americans who depend on the services that government employees provide. Just one day of a shutdown is one day too long.
