MARSHALL--A visitation commemorating the life of , 76, of Marshall, will take place on Sunday, August 30, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. with sharing of memories at 2:30 p.m. at the Horvath Remembrance Center in Marshall. A private family interment will be held at a later date.
Michael John Culhane was born on February 10, 1950, in Marshall, MN, to William and Frances (Fargen) Culhane. He grew up in Marshall, attended Holy Redeemer School, Central Catholic High School and graduated from the Marshall High School in 1968. Michael obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree from Southwest Minnesota State University. He later earned his Master's Degree from Mankato State University. On June 21, 1980, he was united in marriage to Carol Hart in Gilmore City, IA. In 1984, they moved to Marshall where they made their home and raised their family. Michael sold insurance for a time. He also worked as a Qualitative Rehabilitation Counselor for people who were injured on their job.
Michael was a sports fan. He enjoyed following his children's and grandchildren's activities. He also enjoyed watching Notre Dame Football and the Minnesota Vikings. Although he never got to see a Superbowl victory, he was satisfied with two World Series Championships for the Minnesota Twins.
Michael was very fond of time spent with family. He especially enjoyed time at Wall Lake in Fergus Falls.
Michael was also an animal lover. In his honor, the family requests donations be made to the Tracy Area Animal Rescue, or a humane society of the donor's choice. In 2008, Michael began a long health battle with cancer and later many other illnesses.
Michael died on Friday, August 21, 2026, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. He is survived by his wife, Carol, of Marshall, children Tim (Katie) Culhane of Appleton, MN, Patrick Culhane (Kaile) of Marshall, Erin (Mark) Bendzick of Marshall; grandchildren Keegan, Gavin, Kyle, Ella, Callum, Fallyn and Eilley; brothers Jim (and Marsha) Culhane and Terry (and Sandy) Culhane of Marshall, brother-in-law Bryan Peterson and nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Kate (and Gordy) Garrow, Patricia Culhane and Margaret "Peggy" Peterson.
