HANLEY FALLS--Larry William Caron, 81, of rural Hanley Falls, Minnesota, passed away peacefully at his home on the farm on August 4, 2026, surrounded by his family.
Larry was born on August 11, 1944, in Ghent, Minnesota to Bill and Marie Caron. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith and grew up on the family farm outside Cottonwood, Minnesota, the second of six children. Growing up, Larry was responsible for milking the cows each day, and he cherished the time spent with siblings and cousins riding horseback, competing at horse shows and riding bulls and broncs at the rodeo. Hard work, faith and family were at the center of the Caron household from the very beginning.
It was at Cottonwood High School that Larry met Georgine "Jeanie" Marie Seitz, and the two became high school sweethearts. Upon graduation from high school, Larry proudly served his country in the United States Army, stationed in Germany for much of his three years of service. Larry and Jeanie kept their relationship going even while he served and she went on to nursing school. They were united in marriage on December 9, 1967, at St. Clotilde Church in Green Valley, Minnesota; the union that would span nearly six decades.
Larry and Jeanie made their life together on a farm with their four children raising dairy cows, hogs, horses and farming alongside Larry's father and his brother Al for many years. Many nieces and nephews spent their summer months working on the farm alongside them. For a number of years Larry also managed a local large dairy and then worked for the Cottonwood Co-op Elevator delivering feed, visiting with many area farmers along the way. Faith and family were the daily focus of Larry's life. His personal relationship with Jesus was lived out plainly in the love and self-sacrifice he showed his family and friends. He treasured traveling to visit relatives, horseback, sleigh and wagon rides, and helping to facilitate and attending the annual Family Bible Camp every August. In retirement, Larry kept working, helping a local farmer during planting and harvest season, and had fun with the experience of using horse-drawn machinery to plant sweet corn and mow road ditches and alfalfa with his beloved Haflinger horses.
Larry was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and few things brought him more joy than watching his family grow. Whenever one of the grandkids was up for it, they could stop by the farm and play cards or Carbles with Grandpa and any time spent with him was an opportunity to ask his opinion, seek advice or just get words of encouragement on life choices or directions. He always was ready with just the right words. He also held "boot camps" for grandkids who wanted to visit for a stretch, complete with chore lists, prayer time, and Bible study -- always with a written list of the day's tasks in hand, just as he kept for himself every day.
Larry lived his faith daily, serving his family and community in many different ways. In his early years, he was involved in charismatic renewal, served as a religious education teacher, diocesan committee member and parish council member, helping to spread his love for Jesus. In his later years, he was an active member of Grace Life Church where he served on the prayer team and also hosted and led a life group. Through it all, Larry lived out his faith and his selfless commitment to Jeanie and his family every day.
Larry is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jeanie Caron of Hanley Falls; his children, Jeffrey (Lisa) Caron, Angela (Troy) Schumacher, Kelly (Matt) Imes and John (Desiree) Caron; his 18 grandchildren and their spouses: Katelyn (John) Capistrant, Kara Mae, Kassandra (fiancé Mason), Kaylee and Kacia Caron; Caleb, Rebecca (Jonathan), Gabriel (Rebecca) and Luke Schumacher; Jordan (Robin), Josephine (Brandon) Lampi, Samantha and Noah Imes; and Cody (fiancée Kaitlyn), Cayden (Korysa), Joseph, Dylan and Blake Caron; his five great-grandchildren and two on the way: Anthony, Eleanor and Joseph Capistrant, Burnley Schumacher and John "Jack" Imes; and his siblings: Connie (Myron) Kockelman, LaVonne (Fletcher) Syltie, Allen (Jean) Caron, and Doug (Julie) Caron along with his brother-in-law John Rencher and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents William and Marie Caron, his in-laws Wilson and Marjorie Seitz and his sister JoAnne Rencher.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at Grace Life Church in Marshall, MN. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 10, at the Horvath Remembrance Center, and will continue one hour prior to the service, 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the church. Interment with military honors will take place at Christ Lutheran Cemetery in Cottonwood, MN.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Prairie Home Hospice.
