VENICE, FL -- Jay LaVern Ohlsen passed away August 5, 2026, in Venice, FL, surrounded by his wife and family.
Born August 27, 1936, in Worthington, MN, to Walter (Vern) and Marcella Ohlsen, Jay graduated from Worthington High School and Junior College before serving in the National Guard. He earned his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine from California College of Podiatric Medicine in San Francisco. Jay married his high school sweetheart, Joyce (Benson), on November 26, 1960.
He founded his podiatry prac- tice in Marshall, MN, serving the community for 39 years before retiring in 2002. He and Joyce later moved to Venice, FL, to enjoy life at Pelican Pointe.
Jay served as president of the Minnesota Podiatry Association and Rotary Club of Marshall and was active in the Masonic Order and State Board of Podiatry. He loved golf, travel, hunting, avia- tion, his 1971 MG, fixing things, and lively debate.
He is survived by Joyce; children Mark (Ruthann), Susan (Arcel), and Doug (Judy); and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Diane, and grandson Quinn.
The memorial service will be August 29 at 11:00 a.m. at Farley Funeral Home in Venice, followed by a celebration at Pelican Pointe Country Club. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local PBS station.
