Barbara Jean Otto

Barbara Jean Otto was born to Alice(Zinniel) and Raymond Otto on October 20, 1951 at Wiener Memorial Hospital in Marshall Mn, the second of nine children. She was baptized at the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church and attended Holy Redeemer School through the tenth grade and then graduated from the Marshall Senior High School in 1969 as the class salutatorian. She then attended Saint Benedict’s college for two years before transferring and graduating from Southwest Minnesota State College in1973. Barb also received an Art Degree from Dekalb College in Illinois.

After graduation Barb relocated to Stillwater and worked as a medical Technician until her retirement. Barb also taught Art classes at the University of MN Twin Cities Campus. Barb was an accomplished artist and quilt maker with her work being displayed at various events in the metro area

Barbara passed away on November 19, 2025, after struggling with medical conditions aggravated by her polio diagnosis as a toddler.

Barb is survived by her siblings Bill(Terri) of Marshall, Susan Otto-Siverson(Neil) of Lake Elmo, Mary Woodward of Shoreview, Ray JR. of Sioux Falls SD and Pat(Tami) of Louisa Virginia. Unfortunately her sister Susan passed away on November 24, 2025, five days after Barb’s death. Barb is also survived by sister-in-law Wendy of Thompson ND, brother-in-law Kerry Schultz of Elkhorn Nebraska and sixteen nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Brothers Greg and Paul and sister Kristin.

A Celebration of Life will be held on July 11th, 2026 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM In the Margot picnic Shelter B at the University of Minnesota Arboretum located at 3675 Arboretum Drive, Chaska Mn. 55318. The Celebration of Life will be held in conjunction with a Celebration of Life for Barb’s sister, Sue Otto-Siverson who passed away five days after Barb’s death.
