Stanley Howard Serreyn was born February 11, 1928 on a farm near Lake Benton, MN, the son of Frans and Johanna (Koenck) Serreyn. He attended country school near Arco and later served in the United States Army in 1951/52.
On November 29, 1952, Stanley was united in marriage to the love of his life, Julia Ann Walters, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall. The couple began their life together farming near Arco and later near Tyler before moving to Marshall in 1969. After relocation, Stanley worked for the City of Marshall in the street department and at the waste water treatment plant until his retirement. He was known for his ingenuity, work ethic, and commitment to excellence.
Anyone who met Stan quickly experienced his warm and welcoming presence. He had a gift for making people smile, often with a quirky comment or playful humor. Stan was a gentle soul with a servant’s heart, always willing to lend a hand. He was well known in his neighborhood for keeping small engines running. When someone asked what they owed him, he would respond with a twinkle in his eye and a smile, “You can’t afford it.”
Stan’s servant heart was especially evident in the devoted love and care he gave to his wife during her long journey with Alzheimer’s disease. After Julia’s passing, he often said, “I will never be whole again.”
Stanley and Julia always made themselves available to help family and friends in times of need. They enjoyed dancing, camping, traveling, and spending time visiting loved ones. For many years, they wintered in Florida and Arizona, where Stan continued to enjoy playing horseshoes well into his 80s.
He was a longtime member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the American Legion.
