Feb. 12, 1972-Feb. 8, 2026

TRACY–William Douglas Morton, Tracy, Minnesota, boarded the Millennium Falcon for his final flight on February 8, 2026 following a brief battle with cancer. Bill was born in Logansport, Indiana on February 12, 1972. He graduated in 1990 from Central High School in Albert Lea, Minnesota, and attended Luther College in Decorah, Iowa.

He was a career IT with Minnesota Corn Processors and worked as Operational Technology Engineer for ADM at the time of his passing. He was the most senior member in the Emerson technology team. In these roles he did what he did best-he set the path on incorporating new technology. He took strong ownership in its success and worked hard to make sure his fellow teammates were also successful. He recently celebrated his 31st year with the company. The team he leaves behind remember him as a bright spot in their days, and someone who would always go out of his way to help.

As a boy he developed a strong sense of humanity choosing Superman as his hero. At the age of six, towel cape wrapped around his shoulders, he broke his arm flying through the living room in pursuit of justice. As an adult, he continued to emulate his hero through kindness, patience, and compassion. His favorite quote was, “Be curious, not judgmental”.

Bill was an avid gamer and a 30 year member of Jam Factor Gaming Alliance. During that time he created many characters, but these five of note will forever be remembered within the World of Greyhawk and the hearts of his gaming friends: Raphaell, Arch Druid of the Fellreev Forest; Mordarby, Grand Master Wizard of the Circle of Eight; Viconte, Patriarch of Heironeous; Sir Gaius, Knight Commander of the Knights of the Iron Blade; and Thane Bazzerak, High Thane of all Dwur. He used his creativity and artistic talent to create 3D scenery and characters for gaming. His written and oral storytelling talents contributed to his skilled leadership as a Dungeon Master. He was an avid reader of fantasy and big fan of J. R. R. Tolkien. Attending Comic Con in Indianapolis was a highlight of Bill’s life each year.

His creativity showed through in his love of cooking and baking. You could always count on Bill to bring a spicy green bean casserole at Christmas. He enjoyed experimenting with new recipes and providing feasts for his friends and family.

Bill was an eclectic music lover who enjoyed the melodies of the Middle Ages, The Planets, the Beatles, and Pink Floyd. He often sang What a Wonderful World at karaoke. He sang in the choir in high school and college, and enjoyed playing the guitar. He recently was able to attend both the Pink Floyd and the Star Wars concerts presented by the Minnesota Orchestra fulfilling two musical goals.

Most importantly, Bill was a trusted and good friend. His friendships were for a lifetime. Bill was a thoughtful and loving uncle, a dedicated son, and a caring brother. He loved attending the birthday parties of his nieces and nephews, and always provide the most loved gifts. He was an avid supporter at their school musicals, concerts and sports events. His cleverness, sense of humor and bear hugs will be missed.
