Terrence “Terry” Francis Schreiber was born in Marshall, on April 9, 1949, to Joseph and Helene (Welvaert) Schreiber. He grew up on the family farm near Taunton, and attended St. Edward Catholic School and Minneota High School, graduating in 1967. He attended Worthington Community College from 1967-1968. He served in the United States Air Force from 1969-1973, serving in Vietnam in 1971. He attended Canby Vo-Tech after being honorably discharged from the military and then began his career in farming. He married Donna Roles on August 9, 1975, in St. Leo, MN.
Farming was Terry’s passion. He was a devoted nurturer and caretaker of the land and his livestock. He was always willing to help and impart wisdom in all aspects of his life. Putting others first and being selfless came naturally to Terry. Honesty and loyalty were very important to him, and he instilled a strong work ethic in those around him. Terry liked tinkering outside and could always find a way to make things work. He loved being at home on the farm and spending time with his family. Terry’s Catholic faith was very important to him, and he took great pride in serving his family, country, and community. The Air Force and military was something he held close to his heart all his life and was very generous with donations to the many organizations he believed in.
He was a huge collector of John Deere toys and memorabilia. He was all things Ford and had a great love of fishing and playing cards. He enjoyed following the Minnesota Vikings and Twins, watching Western movies and historical/military documentaries. As a sentimental person, he liked to save everything he received. He was a big music fan, collector, and had a sweet tooth and fondness for Dr. Pepper and Little Debbie.
Terry had a great sense of humor and a quick wit with many one-liners you knew were coming. Teasing his grandkids and giving people a hard time was just his way of showing affection. He was a professional at the “Minnesota goodbye,” always willing to strike up a conversation with friends and strangers. He was very proud of teaching people how to spell Schreiber: “i before e except in Schreiber.”
He was a lifetime member of St. Edward Catholic Church in Minneota where he ushered for many years. He was a proud member of the Taunton Legion Post #604 and Minneota VFW Post 5334. He was a former member of the Eidsvold Township, Lyon County Association of Townships, and various other affiliations throughout his life. He will be deeply missed.
Terry passed away on Sunday, February 1, 2026, at his home surrounded by family after a brief battle with lung cancer. He was 76 years old. Terry is survived by his wife of 50 years, Donna; daughter Kimberly (Jason) Severson of Sleepy Eye, MN; daughter Valerie (Kiel) Rushton and their children Sydney, Jameson, and Max of Savage, MN; son Steven (Melanie) Schreiber and their children Ryder and Skylar of Sioux Falls, SD; son Christopher (Shayna) Schreiber and their children Nevaeh, Addilyn, Amyah, and Creed of Taunton, MN.
