Ramona Marie Buysse was born on December 5,1929 to Philip and Helen (Fier) DeVos on the family farm north of Taunton, MN. She was baptized, confirmed and married at St. Edwards Catholic Church in Minneota, MN. Her grade school years were at District 31 country school, and she graduated from Canby High School in 1947.
After graduation, Ramona went to work in Marshall, MN for Drs. C.A. and C.F. McGuiggan as a dental assistant and secretary. She loved her work. During that time, she met her loving husband to be, Vincent. They were married in 1950 and shared nearly 67 years together. They were blessed with 10 beautiful children, quickly filling the 3-bedroom home that Vincent built. Nine of their children were born in 10 years and there was always a baby to care for. Her friends told her, ‘Large families keep you young.’
Faith was very special to her and Vince. All of their children attended Holy Redeemer Catholic School. She served on the Holy Redeemer Board of Education, Holy Redeemer CCW, Parish Council, the Immaculate Heart Study Club and the Bingo Committee. She was also a founding member of the Pinto Athletic Support Group for Southwest State University women’s athletics in the early 70’s, in addition to serving on the Booster Club for Marshall High School. She was also a regular blood donor and an election judge for 40 years.
Ramona’s greatest joy was having all the family together, playing rolle bolle, golf, cards, bean bags, and enjoying Lake Minnewaska. Many hours were spent watching her children and grandchildren in their numerous activities. She enjoyed all sports and she loved to dance. She and Vince would dance until the band played “show me the way to go home”. She was also an avid bowler, tennis player, golfer, and card shark.
Ramona died on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at the Vivie Knute Nelson Care Center in Alexandria, Minnesota.
